Recreational vehicles are getting more and more popular, as they provide people with a way to travel long distances in comfort and convenience. One drawback however is that they are a huge purchase requiring a lot of research. Following you will find some of the most common mistakes made by inexperienced buyers.
One mistake people who are too anxious to buy their RV often make is not getting it thoroughly checked out first. You’ll want to make sure that it runs perfectly and that any warranty available for it is how it should be. If you are purchasing a used RV, ask to see the vehicle’s history and service records. Make sure you understand the warranty that comes with it, and any limits in terms of time or type of problem it covers. When it comes to getting the actual vehicle inspected, you not only want to make sure the motor is good, but that the frame is solid and rust-free, and that the transmission and electrical system are in good working order.
Avoid buying something you cannot afford or don’t really need. For instance some models come equipped with a very elaborate kitchen which is awesome if you or your spouse is a master cook. As a general rule serious RVers eat out or simply BBQ outside the motor home and don’t need the elaborate set up in the kitchen. Just like buying an RV that is too big. This will cost you more in the long run both up front and at the fuel station.
People who purchase recreational vehicles sometimes make the mistake of not considering what kind of features and layout they need before they buy one. You’ll want your “home on wheels” to be comfortable ad well suited to you and those using it. You may find there are some features you really like such as closet or shower size, bathroom arrangement etc. These conveniences can make a huge difference in your comfort level when you use them every day. As you are trying to decide which RV is right for you picture your belongings being in it and think how it will suit your needs.
