A New 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 Is Definitely Not Like The Toyota Prius

A 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is really a hybrid that will never remind you of a Prius in every shape or form. Gasoline efficiency is the thing that you think of when you think hybrid nevertheless the BMW hybrid is not that fuel efficient. When compared to other 7-series models, the 2011 ActiveHybrid 7 is going to save more on fuel but it does not move well in stop and go traffic and the idle stop feature shuts off the power steering. It will do a good job of combining raw car power with the fuel efficiency of hybrid technology but there are some quirks that get in the way.

The use of an electrical motor in a hybrid implies that the gas-powered motor is smaller but in the case of the BMW, it is not. Most hybrids lower gasoline costs while maintaining power, but BMW saw the extra power, and decided to make their cars go faster. The 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 has a dual turbo direct-injection 4.4-liter V-8 engine which is the same as the fundamental BMW 750i The only difference is definitely the electric motor that’s powered from the 120-volt lithium ion battery pack. The hybrid will give you much better fuel consumption than the regular 750i but provide even more horsepower.

In spite of being a hybrid automobile, the ActiveHybrid 7 doesn’t drive in pure electric mode in any situation. Rather, the system should include some boost during acceleration and the engine will shut down at a stop which is like the Integrated Motor Assist System of the Honda. Whenever you are in the driver’s seat, you simply won’t even know that you are in a hybrid, but it has a blue area in the fuel gauge, which shows when the car is having electricity regenerated by its momentum. If the car stops at a traffic light, you’ll be aware that it is a hybrid, by the engine going soundless and the tach needle drops to zero. Inspite of the size of the engine, the car starts up very smoothly when you take the foot off the brake pedal.

When you are parked at a traffic light that is really long, that is when the idle stop system is useful, but not quite as well in stop-and-go traffic. It is great to have the engine shut off as you sit there stopped, but it becomes a nuisance when it shuts down for 5 seconds at a time, and this takes some getting used to. The level of performance is impressive but it does take some getting used to because the car will lunge forward even with a light touch on the accelerator. The way the car is created, it is not a green car but a car that uses the hybrid system to add more power while improving fuel efficiency somewhat.

As soon as you visualize a hybrid, you think of fuel efficiency, and even though the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is more efficient that the standard BMW 7-series, it only gets around 20 miles per gallon. Pretty good for the luxury vehicle it is, but nothing breathtaking for a hybrid.
