You will encounter many different conditions and situations when you drive regularly. Particularly, you’ll be sharing the highway with various types of cars and people and this can mean that the unexpected will happen at times. If you know what is happening around you and you know the type of drivers surround you, you can prevent accidents from happening. We will look at how being respectful of other people can lower the chances of getting into a car accident.

One kind of road user that we notice all the time happen to be cyclists. As is the way it is with car or truck drivers, you will see cyclists that ride their bike with an awareness for other people on the road and those that do not. It could possibly become dangerous during rush hour since they will be harder to see and they approach you from the rear. You have to be more cautious and look at your rear view mirror and look over your shoulder before changing lanes or pulling out. A lot of cyclists ride alongside one another in groups so never overtake them until it is safe and be cautious when you approach them.

Motorcyclists are similar to cyclists but they are obviously much faster. There are many motorcyclists who drive fast and there will be times that they may be coming up from behind and you are not aware of it. Those who ride motorcycles like to weave in and out of traffic so you have to be sure that they are not in back of you when you change lanes.

Larger cars and trucks such as lorries and coaches present different challenges and you certainly want to avoid accidents with these if you can. Individuals who drive transport trucks or lorries tend to go to unfamiliar areas so they may make sudden changes while on the road. A driver could possibly be tired after having a long journey and you need to be aware of their blind spots in terms of being able to see you. There may also be lorry drivers from some other countries who may not understand some of the road signs and you need to give them plenty of room and only overtake when you feel completely safe to do so.

You have to be extremely cautious when it comes to pedestrians especially around schools and shopping locations. In cases like this, the speed at which you drive might make the difference between stopping safely and securely and a tragedy. If you cultivate the habit of driving with consideration to other road users you can actually prevent accidents and keep yourself safe on the road.
