If you were not aware all Speeding offences that apply to the courts in the UK are handled by the magistrate’s court.
There are certain general guidlines set out for potential fines when having to go to a magistrate’s court. Please take note that these are only guidelines and are not carved in stone. The judge can wander from them if he so wishes, depending on the persons particular circumstances. It’s also to a certain degree means tested and will take in to account your present weekly wage when working out the total fine.
Below are some general guidlines to work from if you’re . If your a 1st time offender it is worth pointing out it is very rare for a court to enforce the maximum % penalty and will customarily not exceed 75%. This mean 75% of your weekly pay packet.
Speeding Limit (mph) 3 point speeding fine (mph) 4-6 point speeding fine (mph) 6 point speeding fine (mph)
20 21-30 31-40 41-50
30 31-41 41-51 51-60
40 41-55 56-65 66-75
50 51-65 66-75 76-85
60 61-80 81-90 91-100
70 71-90 91-100 101-110
Disqualification NO 7-28 days 7-56 days
Fine Range % of earnings 25%-75% 75%-125% 125%-175%
The above fine range %s are based mostly on your weekly wage so if you earn £1000 a week for example the fine would be anything from 25% to 175% of that amount, which would be anything from £250-£1750
When it comes to maximum speeding fines it is capped at £1000 or £2500 (if caught speeding on a motorway) so you should’nt pay more than this even if you’re in the high income bracket.
The upcoming information is assumed by the court about the above info.
– If you don’t provide the applicable info regarding your takings the fine will be calculated based ]totally on salary set at £350 a week.
– The fine will be set based mostly on earning a minimum of £100 a week. It doesn’t matter to the court if you earn less than this.
