We go to great lengths to make sure our vehicles are ready for winter. Who wants to get stuck in sub-zero degree weather with a stalled car?

But is your car going to be okay in the summer? You might not be aware of it, but your car is going to need extra care in the summer as well.

Servicing your car regularly is a way of keeping your car in top shape at all times. Not only will you able to drive the car for a longer period of time, but when it’s time to sell it, you will be able to also negotiate a higher price for it. I made it a point to get my car serviced according to the dealer’s schedule, and when I traded it in, I got far more than I expected due to the stellar condition of the engine.

It might not be something you read for pleasure, but you should definitely read the owner’s manual. At least take a look-through periodically. How about while you’re waiting to get your oil changed?

Follow the manufacturer’s recommended service schedules. This could save you a major breakdown.

Have the air conditioning system looked over by a qualified technician. If you check things occasionally, you might be able to avoid a huge repair later on.

Overheating is one of the main problems you can run into during the summer. Flushing and refilling the cooling system regularly can prevent problem with overheating.

Belts, hoses and clamps should also be regularly checked by a mechanic. This only takes a few minutes and is usually inexpensive.

You oil and filter should be changed every 3,000 miles, or on a time schedule of about 4 times each year.

Air and fuel filters are also important, and they should be checked regularly.

Check your windshield washer solvent, since we tend to use a lot of it in the winter, and it might be a bit low.

Rotate your tires approximately every 5,000 miles.

Take the time to make sure the spare tire is inflated as it should. Also, make sure you have a jack along with it!

Transmission troubles equal money troubles equal emotional troubles! You can keep that type of stress at bay by regularly servicing your transmission.

If you notice that your brakes are less efficient, get them checked out right away.

You can even check your battery from time to time, to see how much life it has left.

Check all your lights and bulbs to make sure they are in good working order.

A cell phone, flares, jumper cables, and a first aid kit, are must haves you should keep in your car at all times.

So here you go – now you have a list to help you keep your car in good shape. Remember, your car needs to be maintained and checked over even in the summer.
