Properly detailing your car’s wheels is a crucial part of the car detailing system. If you would like to make a car appear really good you need to ensure that the rims are meticulously detailed. But, the single thing that will make even the cleanest car appear mediocre is filthy rims.

So, how are you supposed to keep them looking their best? Are their a few tricks to it? There are some does and don’ts that you need to know about wheels and wheel cleaning.

Even though wheels are generally coated with very durable paint, the automotive detailing process for cleaning wheels is rather delicate. Most Kansas City detailers will use acid-based wheel cleaner because it is cheap, works very fast and makes detailing a lot easier. This is a bad idea and is used as a kind of shortcut for the high-volume and budget car detailing companies.

It is no secret, using acid to clean anything is a bad idea. Especially automotive wheels, paint and rubber. The same type of acid cleaners were originally made to clean concrete and were never intended to be used on painted or polished surfaces. Premature fading, cracking, pitting and bonding failure are just a few of the major problems that acid cleaners will introduce.

Citrus based cleaners. That’s right. A good automotive detailing citrus style wheel cleaner should work amazing. In fact, the right citrus cleaner will work amazingly for cleaning bugs and tar from your paint as well as removing nasty brake dust from your rims. Even though you may spend some extra time and elbow grease, detailing your rims with the proper chemicals will make a significant difference.

Be willing to invest more time and money detailing your wheels using the correct products and techniques so that your wheels will look great now and for years to come. Applying a wheel wax will take the detailing process to a whole new level. Not only will the gloss and shine increase but brake dust will have trouble sticking to them.

Applying a wheel sealer or wax to your rims not only makes them look a lot better but it helps to keep them clean. Wheels that are sealed can normally be pressure washed to a near detailed finish because the sealer’s anti-static characteristics keep brake dust from clinging to the surface. This will save you a lot of time during future detail jobs.
