A lot of drivers at some point in their driving career will get a speeding violation forany number of reasons. Most drivers will take their tickets and pay it. Some like not having your drivers license on your person or an expired license plate really can’t be fought with any kind of defense or strategy. But then there are traffic ticket certain defense strategies that can be used for different speeding citations.

One of the most common defense strategies is that you as the driver were not in the know of the infraction that you were ticketed for. Storms sometimes blow down road signs, speed limit signs, and even yield signs. Sometimes people will vandalize and paint over a speed limit or even take the sign. A defense strategy here is that you were not aware of what traffic statute that you broke because the county didn’t have the signs properly posted. Another strategy is to look up the violation in the area where you received it. Usually there are several points that must be proven and some guidelines the officer must go by. Look at each one of these and determine if everything was done the right way and if each can be proven in traffic court. If you find a mistake with just one of these steps, it can be the basis for your defense.

One other defense strategy is to dispute the authenticity of the devices that were used to determine the speed if it is a speeding infraction. These devices have to have proper documentation and be calibrated from time to time. If this documentation isn’t up to date, you can use this to get out of the violation as the readings are just unreliable at this point.

Do not be fearful to come up with your best defense strategy because the reality is that more often than not violations that are contested in traffic court can get their ticket thrown out or hopefully at least get a reduced fine.
